Rating and Generating Sudoku Puzzles
The Sudoku puzzle has achieved worldwide popularity recently, and attracted great attention of the computational intelligence community. How to evaluate the difficulty of the puzzle is a difficult thing. In this paper, the nondeterministic degree is regarded as the main factor that affects Sudoku puzzle and we get the difficulty through summing the entropy of each step. We give the difficulty l...

متن کاملSudoku: Strategy versus Structure
Sudoku puzzles, and their variants, have become extremely popular in the last decade, and can now be found daily in most major U.S. newspapers. In addition to the countless books of Sudoku puzzles, there are many guides to Sudoku strategy and logic. (Some good references are the books [1, 3], and the web pages [5, 6]. The reader is also directed to these for explanations of some of the terms me...
متن کاملApproaching the minimum number of clues Sudoku problem via the polynomial method
Determining the minimum number of clues that must be present in a Sudoku puzzle in order to uniquely complete the puzzle is known as the minimum number of clues problem. For a 9× 9 Sudoku board, it has been conjectured that one needs 17 clues. We apply the polynomial method to the analogous problem for the 4× 4 Shidoku board to illustrate how one might approach the more general problem.
متن کاملThere is no 16-Clue Sudoku: Solving the Sudoku Minimum Number of Clues Problem
We apply our new hitting set enumeration algorithm to solve the sudoku minimum number of clues problem, which is the following question: What is the smallest number of clues (givens) that a sudoku puzzle may have? It was conjectured that the answer is 17. We have performed an exhaustive search for a 16-clue sudoku puzzle, and we did not find one, thereby proving that the answer is indeed 17. Th...
